The Zipper

Sleep like a zipper

From my friend Susan in Ohio comes this image from The Secret Language of Sleep: A Couple’s Guide depicting a couple that neither sees eye to eye, nor dances cheek to cheek. Apparently there are all sorts of politics associated with sleeping comfort in a bed shared. Who knew?

For those who zip themselves together, it’s advised to keep a supply of towels and drinking water bedside. Every time I’ve done that, it didn’t have anything to do with sleeping.

If you want to get comfortable, take the author’s sleep test.

If you sleep like a zipper, be sure to keep plenty of towels on hand.

Letters & Journals

From Jackie comes this preview of the cover of the premier issue of Letters & Journals, slated for publication sometime this year. Their website is already full of useful information for those of us who put pen to paper.

A preview (in postcard form) of the premier issue of Letters & Journals, which should debut (hopefully!) not later than the end of the year.

Frankenmuth Chicken Dinners

Here are a couple of postcards from the 1960s, extolling the virtues of stopping by Frankenmuth, Michigan, for dinner. First, Frankenmuth’s Bavarian Inn: “In Frankenmuth, where the population is only 1700, 600,000 special dinners are served annually. Here the gemuetlichkeit of Old Bavaria blends with the hospitality of New America. World famous for Frankenmuth family style chicken and other dinners.”

New America? Well, I guess it was a little newer when this postcard was produced. But the Bavarian Inn folks make you the fine print on the back of this postcard to hear about delicious chicken. Zehnder’s, on the other hand, gets straight to the point:

Call me what you want, just don’t call me late for chicken dinners. And a Happy Birthday to my friend Nicole, who is quite the Frankenmuth fan.

Art is _________.

Art is running late, but he'll be here in a few minutes

Last month PostMuse got a postcard just like this one from Am, posted it on Postcrossing, and invited one and all to fill in the blank. Am must have thought my comment was cute and she likes this blog (not to mention Girls Go Postal) so she sent another one along. It’s an ad/contest card for the Singapore Art Show, which started on 21 August and ends tomorrow, 4 October. (Actually, I think it’s already tomorrow in Singapore as I write this.  Oh well.) One was invited to “paint, scribble, etch or glue your answer” onto the postcard and send it in.

My smartass — uh, witty — comment was, “Art is running late, but he’ll be here in a few minutes.” By all means, feel free to fill in the blank yourself.
