Looks like Phil had a happy Valentine&#8217;s Day; I hope you do the same.</p>

<p>I can&#8217;t help but notice that these qualifications aren&#8217;t unique to Texans; I&#8217;ve met a number of people here in Georgia named Bubba. Some of them even hold public office.</p>

<p>This is a postcard sent to my Great-Grandpa Phil by his cousin, James, on February 25 of either 1908 or 1909; the postmark isn&#8217;t clear. (Also, somebody did a poor job of filching the stamp.) What&#8217;s odd is that it&#8217;s postmarked at Helen, Pennsylvania. James lived in Dawson, Pennsylvania, about 10 miles from Phil, but he mailed it from Helen, which was only about two miles away. James and Phil were both pre-teens at the time; James and family might have been visiting friends. I don&#8217;t recall any that any relatives lived in the very tiny hamlet of Helen.</p>

<p><a title="Ellepibi's Profile on Postcrossing" href="http://www.postcrossing.com/user/ellepibi" target="_blank">Ellepibi</a> sent in this card from &#8220;sunny Southern California&#8221;; I find it very uplifting.  One would think that, given the economy, the Wonderbra might be making strides against breast implants in Los Angeles, but Google says that&#8217;s not so.  The biggest surprise: as of this writing, LA is ninth on the list of US cities searching for information on breast implants.  Number one?  <a title="Google Trends: Wonderbra vs. Breast Implants" href="http://www.google.com/trends?q=breast+implants%2C+wonderbra" target="_blank">Salt Lake City</a>.</p>

<p>This is a cute card that came to me as part of a lot that I purchased from the UK for trading, but decided to keep this one (among others).  The saying&#8217;s been around for a while, but I think it gives computers a bum rap: they don&#8217;t foul things up any more than usual; they just do it a lot more quickly.  But without a computer, you never would have met Mademoiselle Capucine:</p>

<p>She&#8217;s not bad; she&#8217;s just drawn that way.  Lloyd Stoltz sent this card off to Kay Anthony on June 6, 1950 (the day before he sent her <a href="http://www.wildpostcards.com/2008/12/the-people-we-met/">this card</a>) with the message &#8220;See I&#8217;m asking you &#8212; ha ha. Hesitatingly, LS&#8221;.</p>
<p>Was Lloyd trying to cultivate a long-distance romance?  What was the question from Kay to which he&#8217;s obviously replying?  I don&#8217;t know where the cards that Kay sent to Lloyd are, but I hope they still exist somewhere.</p>

<p>This postcard is a souvenir of the famous Manneken Pis statue in Brussels, Belgium.  It probably dates back to the 1910s and is printed on some very heavy stock.  The back also indicates that it was manufactured in Brussels.  It&#8217;s somewhat yellowed now &#8212; with age, people, not with anything that might have come out of the statue.</p>
<p>It&#8217;s my understanding that they do occasionally hook the statue up to a supply of beer and hand out cups of what comes out of the statue to passersby.  I&#8217;m not sure I would be drinking anything yellow and foamy that came out that way.</p>
